UK team win medals as IBO returns to in-person

This year saw the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) return to in-person in Yerevan, Armenia.

Four students representing the UK were awarded medals at the competition.

Senan Bottomley (St Paul’s School), Sri Nivasan Loganthan (Westcliff High School for Boys) and Jack Yu (Tiffin School) received silver medals and Kez Ward (Forest School) received a merit.

Students from more than 60 countries participated in this year’s IBO. The UK team were selected from over 10,000 students who took part in the British Biology Olympiad in March.

The team sat practical and theoretical examinations at the international competition, which covered topics in biochemistry, botany, microbiology and physiology.

They also took part in a social programme that included visits to the Monastery of Geghard, the Erebuni Museum and Vernissage Market.
