Success at the 36th International Biology Olympiad 2025

Congratulations to the UK team who were awarded four medals at the 36th International Biology Olympiad held in Quezon City, the Philippines!

Alexia Brazil (St Paul’s Girls’ School), Aryan Chandel (Bancroft’s School), Joseph Wong (Liverpool College) won silver medals and Olivia Hall (Benenden School) won a bronze medal.

298 students from 77 countries competed in demanding practical and theory examinations, covering topics including biomedical sciences, cell and molecular biology, ecology and systematics, and microbiology.

The competitors also had a varied programme outside of the exam room including a collaborative creative project with local public school students and a trip to the Province of Batangas.

The UK team were selected from over 18000 students who entered the British Biology Olympiad, with the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick hosting the final team selection round.
