The volunteers of the British Biology Olympiad are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their longstanding friend and colleague, Norma Broadbridge MBE, on 31 October 2026.
Norma established the British Biology Olympiad in 1996, following an invitation for the UK to participate in the International Biology Olympiad the previous year. She chaired the BBO committee for the next 15 years and led the UK delegation to the IBO on eight occasions between 1998 and 2010. She was also a member of the organising committee for the 2017 IBO, held at the University of Warwick.
Norma made an extraordinary contribution to biology education and the Olympiad community, both in the UK and internationally. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and colleagues.
